Why Should we stop MUPUD?

Highlights from Auguest 2024 public hearing meeting:

  • Quote #1“ There is NOTHING binding in what Zom is giving you - it is all marketing materials.” NONE of it is necessarily what will be built”
  • Quote #2. “If this board allows Simon to sell off its property in bits and pieces, the current state of the South Shore Plaza almost certainly will not improve - they are talking about a 0.01% increase in the customer base at the South Shore Plaza being a catalyst for 1.6M Square Feet of retail space. That doesn't make sense on any planet.”

  • There is so much more. We suggest watching our NBCA Board Member Steve Sciasca at Last Planning Board Meeting. (Start at 2:33) His thorough examination of the Simon Mall Property and its impact on Braintree and our tax base - their lack of maintenance and upkeep while the assessed value deteriorates and customers flock to other local shopping areas to avoid crime, etc - ultimately spending money in other shopping areas instead of Braintree impacting other areas including gas and meal tax. The lack of upkeep is negatively impacting our community from a revenue perspective. We are missing out on significant tax revenue. YET Simon enjoys high earnings- Billions!! This is a must-see for every resident of Braintree. As many know, Steve was a District 2 Councilor, a Highly Educated and well-respected business owner, and a Yale Graduate.
